You do not need it to be enabled, but I don’t see any reason why you would want to not enable it. VTd allows direct access to the hardware from the virtual machine. If you’re not using software that is making use of virtualization, it should not affect performance.
In terms of stability, having it enabled or disabled shouldn’t hinder/benefit the stability/performance of a PC.
